It's Time to Grow

Saints of God...your frustrations in life, your fear of the future, and your walk with God will improve 100% IF you:

1. REALLY "take it to the Lord" in prayer.  Time spent on your knees in submission to God is a whole lot different than breathing a prayer of frustration.
2.  Read, study and APPLY the Word of God.
3. Be faithful in your commitments to God.
4. Be faithful to your local assembly (in ALL things).
5. Apply the taught and preached Word your Pastor delivers from the heart of God.

Weak Christians do not live an overcoming life!  They think they can get all the strength they need from "talking" to the Pastor/Pastor's wife/another saint.  If you want to be an "overcomer" GROW IN THE LORD!  Don't be a spiritual child running to the Pastor or anyone else with every little adversity that comes your way.  Learn to deal with your own spirit, attitude and life through your access to the throne of God and His Word!

ALERT:  Pastors are having their strength drained from them by anemic saints who think all they need to do is attend church. I thank God that, for the most part, we pastored saints who knew how to survive in this present world. They did the things I mentioned above and lived an overcoming life.

And the last thing I feel to say...

6.  Support your Pastor and his family. Love them!  Take care of them.  Be loyal!

(This photo is Sis. Connie Bernard's Bible at Camp Meeting this year. I loved it!  She marked scriptures as her husband was teaching.  I asked her how long she's had it. Her answer:  35 years!  What a treasure!)

Look to the Sky

"This world, this world is not my home.  This world, this world is not my home.  This world is not my resting place.  This world, this world is not my home."

It's so easy to get caught up in this life and forget we do not belong here.  As Christians, we are only passing through.  Don't forget...we're just pilgrims.

I'll never get accustomed to the worlds thinking.  I don't have my head in the sand, and neither do I live in a fairy tale world.  However, the longer I live the more I feel I do not belong here.  Signs of the times are everywhere.  The world is not going to get better. Jesus never promised it would, but He did promise He would give us the power and strength to make it through this life with victory.  I'm so thankful for His promises.

As each new day dawns I find myself "looking for my blessed hope."  Many times I walk outside and look to the skies.  You may ask...What do you see?  Blue skies, clouds, the sun, birds, maybe an airplane or two.  A better question is...What are you looking for?  I'm looking for Jesus to come back! Since a child I have been told He's coming and I still believe it today.  I'm living my life, not for this life only, but for the life to come.

An old song I've heard and even sung through the years comes to mind:  "I'm longing for Jesus to come back.  I long for Jesus Christ my King.  To come and take me to my home beyond the sky.  Up there where angels shout and sing."

Saint of God...LOOK UP!  We have a "blessed hope!"  One day, we WILL behold Him...in all of His glory!

Keep Walking

I hear it ringing in my ears...joyful praise. I see down through the years...saints of God rejoicing, because of our HOPE!  I am reminded...I am blessed because of my spiritual inheritance. So, I sing...

The burdens of life may be many,
The frowns of the world may be cold;
To me it will matter but little,
When I walk up the streets of gold.

When I walk up the streets of gold, When I walk up the streets of gold;
How my heart will rejoice in that morning,
When I walk up the streets of gold.

With joy I shall enter that city,
The face of my Savior behold;
And I shall be changed and be like Him,
When I walk up the streets of gold.

What wonderful visions of beauty,
What glorious scenes shall unfold;
And what dazzling splendors surround me,
When I walk up the streets of gold.

For ages and ages I'll praise Him,
And never grow weary or old;
Love-crowned I'll abide in His presence,
When I walk up the streets of gold.

"And let us not lose heart and grow weary and faint in acting nobly and doing right, for in due time and at the appointed season we shall reap, if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint." (Galatians 6:9 AMP)

This Great Truth

I wish my brain didn't start working when my body is ready to rest, but what else is new?  I think I was born to stay awake at night.  Since I'm wide awake I'll share where my brain took me when I put my head on the pillow. HA!

I was raised in a strong revival church. My Dad preached the Word of God without fear or favor. He preached the principles of the Word and expected me to "line up" to them. He preached that Heaven is worth every trial and every test, and whatever I had to do, to get there...DO IT!  He preached that Hell is real and it wasn't prepared for me, and whatever I had to do, to stay out of Hell...DO IT!  He preached with strong conviction and anointing, and when he gave an altar call I wanted to make sure my heart was right!  I can honestly say, I never got bitter over the life I was expected to live. I'm thankful for how I was taught and that I fell in love with Jesus. I'm thankful for a Dad and many other preachers that preached a strong message of "holiness unto the Lord."

Now, if you've read this far...you're probably wide awake like me. I hope you will eventually get sleepy and go to sleep. Most of all, I hope what I have shared from my "wide awake brain" will put a praise of thankfulness in your heart for this great Truth!  I'm just THANKFUL...that's all!   #thinkinoutloud

Simplicity

Simplicity...I like that word. I remember when life was "simple." There was very little "grey" in the world. Society had guidelines that most agreed on, and the principles of a good life were valued.  My mind goes back to when men took care of things that men take care of, like...their wife and family by working hard to "bring home the bacon."  They did business with a handshake and good name. The women loved homemaking...sewing, cooking, and keeping their home sparkling clean. They taught their children respect for others, to look after the elders, to love Dad, and do whatever they could to make him happy because "he works hard to take care of the family."  The men didn't try to do the women's jobs, and the women didn't get involved with the men's jobs. The women were respected and the men revered by the women. It was the "simple life." Adults enjoyed evenings on the front porch drinking sweet tea and watching the children play Hop-Scotch, Jump rope, and Hide 'n Seek.  Laughter rang out as families enjoyed each other, and neighbors waved their greetings from their front porch.  Awww...it's refreshing going back in time when lines were drawn and no one tried to erase them. Today...in our society, things are grey and so mixed together that many do not understand the role they are to fulfill. Children wander aimlessly trying to find their direction. Adults act like children, and don't seem to care that their kids don't have a clue about what's "right" and what's "wrong."  Yes, I use to dislike hearing people say, "Ohhhh for the good ole days." Now, I understand it was just their heart yearning for the "Simplicity of Life."

Worldly Discontentment

"And the mixed multitude among them [the rabble who followed Israel from Egypt] began to lust greatly [for familiar and dainty food], and the Israelites wept again and said, Who will give us meat to eat?" (Numbers 11:4 AMP)

I wonder if those who followed the Israelites out of Egypt did so because of the mighty miracles God had performed in their midst. Did they just go "along for the ride," because they knew God was with His people and they wanted to watch the show?  However, when it came down to "unfamiliar heavenly food" provided by God they were not satisfied, so in the midst of another miracle they grumbled and complained that they didn't have what was "familiar" in Egypt. As the children of God listened to the complaining of those who were going along for the ride, THEY became discontented with God's provisions.

Friends...There are people who hitch their wagon to The Church, yet never become part of The Church.  They hold onto "what they left behind."  We must never be influenced by those who will not sell out to God.  Do not let  "worldly discontentment" change your mind on your journey to the Promise Land! #thinkinoutloud

Special Messenger

I love the special reminders God sends. Today, my husband came home from the office, and when he opened the door he motioned for me to come outside.  When I joined him he told me to look up.  Circling over our neighborhood, just above our home was a bald eagle!  He was beautiful as he soared above our heads. We stood there for a few minutes enjoying the moment, then he turned and flew away in a straight line and we watched him disappear into the blue sky.  It was as if he had given his message and had another destination in mind. I turned and walked into the house and instantly started quoting the scripture..."But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." (Isaiah 40:31 KJV) Thank you, Lord for your ever present care for us.

Everyday Lessons

Her head would be dangling off my lap if I wasn't holding it in my hand. "Mimi won't drop me. I think I'll get some zzzz's."  No stress!  No fear!  Totally relaxed!  Lessons in everyday life can be heartwarming. Look around you and learn. #thinkinoutloud

We Are Family

The "family of God" is so amazing!

Benefits of family:
Love
Acceptance
Needs met
Traditions
Memories
Conversation
Discipline
Protection
Understanding
And...so many more.

"I'm so glad I'm a part of the family of God!"

Stay with the family!  Don't throw them away, because you think you can make it on your own. Family...will love you, encourage you and take care of you when no one else will. Family... knows your past, is in your present and will be by your side into your future. Nothing can take away their love for you. Family...understands your weakness and enjoys watching you soar in your strengths. Family...weeps with you, and rejoices with you!

GOD'S FAMILY...there's no one greater!  #thinkinoutloud

True Love

She replied, “That’s true, Lord, but even dogs are allowed to eat the scraps that fall beneath their masters’ table.” (Matthew 15:27 NLT)

When our little Pixie Belle begs for food, I think of this scripture and can't help but think of the love God shows toward us.  When we're hungry...He feeds us. When we are thirsty...He gives us a drink.  When we're cold...He clothes us. When we are weak...He's our strength.  I cannot comprehend His love toward me.

I have realized much since our little Pixie Belle came into our lives. Many times I'll say, "Pixie, I wish you could understand how much I love you."  She looks at me with those beautiful black eyes and at first I think she understands my words. Then, she looks away and once again I realize she cannot understand. I reach down, take her in my arms, knowing her lack of understanding,  and I love her...anyway.

I'm only human.  I do not understand God's love. However, when He wraps me in His arms, I feel safe, secure, and I get a glimpse of True love.

Still In Love

We were recently at Tupelo Children's Mansion for the Board of Directors meetings. We so enjoyed being there!  This picture was taken at one of the meals. So, if you've forgotten what we look like...here we are.

Snippets from Facebook Posts

Greetings!  I've had a few people tell me they still check my blog to see if I am writing anything.  If you're one of those loyal readers let me apologize for not keeping Echoes from the Elms updated.  Here are a few thoughts I have recently put on Facebook.  They are individual posts.  If you read this post, please comment if you can and let me know.  I trust my friends are doing well.  Hopefully, we can connect again.

1.  I'd love to write just "sweet and fluffy" things on Facebook, but I find no real substance in "cotton candy thoughts." I do know that through every trial, and every test...God is there! That's a fact that will add strength to your bones. #thinkinoutloud

2.  There are times one MUST take a stand for righteousness. It doesn't matter who thinks you're crazy for doing so. If it's something you know is right...STAND! Don't give in to those who want to play in the "shallow waters of worldly indulgence." #thinkinoutloud

3.  I love new converts! The look of recognition that comes into their eyes is priceless. There quiet approach to the throne is beautiful. Their exuberance once they understand what's happening is exciting. Nothing is more beautiful! #thinkinoutloud

4.  When Jesus is in the room...pay attention to what's happening. He's got a reason to be there. Some people are so nonchalant when He shows up it frightens me. To stand in His presence and not give praise to our Redeemer? Oh my! #thinkingoutloud

5.  Moses threw the "Tablets of Stone" and broke them because he was angry at the people for turning to an idol they had built. Don't judge him too harshly. I wonder how many times we allow anger to cause us to break the Word of God in our lives? #thinkinoutloud

6.  Reading the Old Testament ceremonial laws. I wrote in my Bible..."Just think...all we have to do is PRAY!" We can come before God, worship Him, and give Him our petitions...anytime, anywhere! I love being in His presence! #thinkinoutloud

7.  What a great Valentine's Day! We attended the last service of TXD Singles Conference and it was absolutely awesome! The worship was great, and the ministry of Bro. Tes Stewart...outstanding! Afterwards, we went to El Chico to support the Single's Ministry and enjoyed fellowship with Bro. Gary Carter and Bro. Stewart. Sis. Cheryl Carter was at another table close by entertaining missionaries and speakers. The reason...the Single's packed El Chico out and the big tables were taken. TXD Single's ministry will get 10% of the food sold while we were all there. After we got home, we changed clothes and took our motor home back to storage where it will stay until our next trip. Then, we went to Dairy Queen and got a Blizzard. You may say, "That's not a romantic Valentine's Day." You're right! But it has been a very fulfilling day as we rubbed shoulders with great people and felt the touch of Almighty God. I am truly blessed, and I feel honored to serve beside my husband with whom I have spent more "special days" doing ministry than I can count. I am LOVED by a great man, and I'm proud to walk by his side. #thinkinoutloud

Pixie Belle's Grooming Day...continued

Dear Alayna, Ashlyn, Ansley, Savanna, Scarlet, and Shayla,

I decided to start off with the "A's" this time. Mimi told me I needed to be fair, especially when it comes to the granddaughters.

I'm writing to let you know how my day went. As you know, today was my "grooming day" and when I wrote about it before I didn't have a clue as to what "grooming" meant. Well, now I do!  Oh me!

First, let me tell you about what I heard when Mimi and papa picked me up from the groomers. He told her I whimpered for THREE MILES when we left her this morning. I don't think he really understood how I felt, but after he told her how I acted, Mimi explained that I had never been in a car without her, and I was probably crying because I missed her.  I THINK he understood. I want you to know that your Papa is a neat guy!  I really do love him. You girls are VERY lucky to have a Papa like him. He's always so kind when he talks to me. Let me get back to my story...(I get SO distracted!)

I got to "the groomer" and had the SHOCK of my life!  I didn't know all the things they were going to do to me until I heard the man telling Papa.  It made me nervous!  The man who spoke to Papa was nice to HIM, so I knew I'd be okay.  I looked around and saw other dogs getting groomed, but none of them were as CUTE as me. I won the groomers heart!  Shhhhh...don't tell anybody that I'm bragging.  I might get in trouble. I still didn't know what to expect, but I can tell you now that it wasn't too bad. I tried to be on my best behavior, and was so happy to hear them tell Mimi that I did "just fine"!  Whew!  I didn't want to disappoint her.  When the groomer finished, they told me it would be just a little while and Mimi would pick me up. I waited, but I wasn't very patient. Then, I heard the door open...

You should have heard Mimi when she saw me!  Oh. My. Word!  I've never heard anyone sound like her. I'm sure you have, because you've been around longer...SHE WAS SO EXCITED AND HAPPY!  She went on...and on... and on!  I wanted to jump up and give her a big kiss, because she loved my "groom"!  She said, "AWWW...look at you!  Your look SO cute!  I love your little face!  I knew your face would be silver...and...look at your PAWS!!  AWWW....you're just a little doll!"  I almost got embarrassed at the way she was carrying on, but I thought how lucky I was to be her little friend and wiggled in her arms. I was so happy!  When we got in the car Papa just chuckled and picked me up. He said all kind of nice things to me like, "Pixie Belle, look at you!  How's my pretty, wittle puppy doing, huh?"  I just wagged my tail, and wiggled with excitement!  I didn't tell him he was talking "baby talk"!  I really did  liked it!

Papa took me and Mimi home, and when we walked in the door I was STARVING!  Mimi put my food in the bowl and I ate it ALL!  I looked around and noticed Mimi was standing there watching me eat.  I decided to sniff my bowl and let her know I was wanting just a tad bit more. She got the message and gave me more to eat.  I got really full and it felt so good!  Next time, I think I'll try to eat before I go to the groomers.

We stayed home for awhile, then Mimi said she was going to take me to Papa's office so I could meet some people. Since it's cold and rainy, she bundled me up in my snuggle blanket and off we went.  It wasn't far and I was sure glad, because I've been in the car so much lately!  We got to the office, and the first person I saw was Papa. I think he knew we were coming. Then, I turned and saw a real cute young lady.  She was smitten the moment she saw me. In fact, she reached out and took me from Mimi.  She made me feel so special!  I couldn't look at her for a little bit, but then I decided if we're going to be friends I need to be friendly.  I'm glad I was, because I think Xiana is one of the people I will stay with when Papa and Mimi cannot take me with them.
Then...I heard someone coming, and a TALL man walked in!  I wondered who he was, then found out he was a very important man. He made me a little nervous, because I knew I was suppose to act right.  I found out that he was the Texas District Superintendent of the U.P.C.I....whatever all that means...I never have got into "official titles".  Mimi told me I could call him Bro. Prince.  That's much easier!  I still couldn't look at him, but Mimi still HAD to take my picture.
I was enjoying being where Papa works!  It's a real busy place.

Another nice lady came in to see what all the commotion was about. When she heard everyone talking, she thought one of you girls were here, and when she saw ME she couldn't believe it!  She just started laughing. I found out her name was, Sis. Carla.  She works at the office all the time, like Xiana.  (Oh, I almost forgot to tell you...you pronounce Xiana like "see-on-a"). Now, you'll be able to say it when you see it. I'll never understand why her parents spelled her name with an "X"!  Anyway, Mimi had to take another picture.  I just had to shake my head!  She's so funny when it comes to pictures. I can't believe she wanted a picture of me and the office staff. I was told we were missing one person today. I'll guess I'll meet her later. I think they said her name is Sis. Jeannie. Anyway, here's the picture.
I couldn't believe what happened next!  Another man came to the door and when Bro. Prince saw him, he said,"Hello!  You must be a missionary."  I was surprised that he knew the man was a missionary. I found out he figured it out when he saw the trailer behind a truck.  I'm learning a lot today!  I didn't know I could learn so much at three months old. Anyway, a lot of missionary's come through and stay at the camp ground when they're in the Texas District.  Then it happened...the missionary saw ME...and he loved me!  Then he asked if Mimi would take me to meet his wife. There's more to the story, but I'm getting tired, so let me just introduce you to Missionary Parker from Malta.
My next place to stop was in Papa's office. WOW!  He must be a very busy man. At least it looks that way to me. I saw machines I'd never seen before, and it seemed there were a lot of places to play, but I found out real fast that the office is no place to play! I needed to be on my best behavior! I could tell Papa really liked the way I looked, because I could see it in his smile. I asked Mimi to take another picture of me with Papa, since I looked so different from just this morning. AWWW....I really like how this one turned out. You can actually see my eyes and my tiny features.
I knew I was going to have to leave in a few minutes, because Sis. Carla brought some papers in for Papa to sign.  He really needed to get back to work, but I HAD to check out what he was doing.
Of course, I didn't understand, I just acted like I did. (hee-hee). I don't think I fooled him though.

Mimi finally said, "Pixie Belle, it's time to go home.  Let's go!"  I turned around and started walking toward her before I realized she had the camera up taking my picture AGAIN!  I paused and posed, then I saw I was standing on Papa's desk!
I got a little nervous thinking about how far it was to the floor, so I let Mimi wrap me in my snuggle blanket and we headed home.

I hope you girls had a good day, and have enjoyed my stories. I'm really anxious to see you at Thanksgiving. I will give you ALL big kisses and let you hug me.

Your tiny friend...Pixie Belle

P.S. If you STILL can't figure out how to say Xiana, it rhymes with Miata. Well...except for the "M" and the "T".  Come on...you have to give me an "A" for trying. ;-)

P.S.S. When Mimi read what I wrote, she laughed and said to me, "If anybody reads this all the way through they must be really bored!"  I just shook my head and smiled.

Pixie Belle Writes to the "Granddaughters"

Hello everyone, I'm Pixie Belle!  You can't believe how cute I am, at least that's what I'm told MANY times a day!  I've been living in East Texas for about two weeks and I'm getting to where I like it. I was from the big city of Dallas, so this little town takes a little getting use to.  I thought I'd write a little blog for Wendell and Linda's granddaughters so they'll know what's going on in my life. By the way, if you haven't met all of those girls, you're missing out! They are ALL so sweet to me!

Dear Savanna, Scarlet, Shayla, Alayna, Ashlyn and Ansley, (whew...that's a mouth full)...today is a BIG DAY for me!

Today is the day I'm getting "groomed". Groomed?  What's that mean?  I really don't know at this moment, but Mimi (that's what y'all call her) keeps telling me that I'm going to be SOOOOOO CUUUUUUTE when I'm "groomed". I have a little problem with her saying that, because I think I'm ALREADY cute!  (Ummmm....we'll have to have a talk when I get home. We'll need to get a few things straight, like...I'M CUTE ALL THE TIME!)

Things were a little different this morning around the house. Usually, I sit in Papa's (that's what y'all call him) lap while he reads His bible, and I'm so warm and cozy.  When he's finished, he takes me to Mimi and I get to cuddle with her, because she's not quite ready to start the day. I love this time!  After a little while, we get up and get around. Mimi takes me outside...which I usually enjoy, but  I don't like "outside"  when it's raining!  After I eat, I get to play with Mimi!  I absolutely LOVE IT!  However...today was different.

Today, after Papa finished his morning devotions, he took me to Mimi. She talked to me a minute, then we got up.  Just like that!  I wasn't prepared for THAT!  I like to take my time getting up and around. (BIG SIGH)  She immediately took me outside to do my business (by the way I didn't get it done). It was TOOOO COLD AND RAINY!  I HATE weather like that!  The grass is wet, and it gets my paws wet.  Water is dripping from the sky, and my fur gets wet, then my whole body shivers uncontrollably!  How can anyone get their business done when they're in that predicament?  I don't understand it at all!  Oh...I'm sorry...I got sidetracked. Which is normal for me at this age. I'm only 3 months old.  Ok!  Where was I?  Oh yeah...this morning.

This morning I came back in, Mimi took me to my bowl, but for some reason I wasn't hungry, or thirsty. It seemed there was something going on. Papa and Mimi (I think I like those names, now. So, if it's ok with you I'm going to call them that, too) talked about "puppy cuts" and making sure "they" (whoever "they" are) "clipped" me just the right way. You know, "Not too much, but enough."  I guess I'm just too young to understand such language. It made me feel funny inside, so I couldn't eat. Who can eat with that kind of talk going on?

Anyway, Papa took me back outside to "try" one more time, then he picked me up and asked if I wanted to "go".  Go where?  Of course, I want to "go". That's all I've done since I came to their house...GO, GO, GO!  They really need to stay home a little more, but they said we have to go "do the work of The Lord".  Well, today we're going again, but this time, I feel like I'm going to a place I'm not quite ready to be...

When Papa got ready to go, he picked me up in his BIG hands.  I feel so safe and secure when he holds me like that.  Ok...well...I'll talk to y'all later.  I've got to go for now. I'll come back and tell you "the rest of the story".  See y'all later....

Dead Long Enough?

While listening to a radio preacher today, I heard him ask a question that startled my thinking. I was going about my morning when I heard it. The question jolted my mind and a flurry of thoughts began. I can hear your inquisitive mind...What was his question? Here it is..."Has Abraham Lincoln been dead long enough so that he's almost everybody's hero?" Ummmm....the question that hit my mind was, "WHY DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE WE REALIZE WHAT A WONDERFUL PERSON THEY ARE?"

There are many heroes today, yet so many times we don't think of them as such. Why?  One answer I came up with is...most everyone has been disappointed at times over a fallen "hero" in their life. Yes, when someone you revere does something that shatters their world, and yours, you are afraid to trust anyone else. Let me say, it may be hard to "trust again", but you must realize... EVERYONE HASN'T FALLEN! If we would stop and look around us, we would see there are still heroes walking among us.  Just look at it...To every "one hero" that disappoints you, there are hundreds of others who are still standing for the right, fighting for the cause, and making right choices. There are still those who have strong moral values, and live their lives according to the principles of godliness and holiness. There are still those who have purposed to be pure in heart, working diligently to please our precious Lord. As they please Him, they are exampling to us what it's like to be like Him. If we would get out of our questioning and critical mind set that we have allowed, because we were disappointed sometime in life, we just might see where these heroes are leaving footprints in the sand for us to follow.

Everyone needs at least one hero! Your hero may be someone very few people know. Your hero may be a prayer warrior who prays until they receive their answer. Your hero may be a preacher who is on the front line with the sword of The Lord in one hand, and the staff of the shepherd in the other. Your hero may be the little lady sitting over to the side that smiles when you walk by. Yes, everyone should have a hero. They need someone they can look up to and say, "I want to be just like them!" Don't let the fickleness of those who can't walk a straight line give you a skewed vision of the TRUE HERO.

As I've watched heroes through the years I observed one central theme: A hero never knows he or she is a hero, because they do not focus on who THEY are...they focus on the TRUE HERO of all time...Jesus Christ. You can trust someone who has their foundation in Christ alone.

Overwhelmed With Thankfulness

I have many emotions today as I think of all the men and women who have served, and are presently serving our country!  Yesterday morning, as we were preparing for church, I received a group text from our oldest granddaughter, Savanna. "Happy Sunday to you!!!" It made me happy to hear from her. I responded, then Alayna, our second granddaughter wrote, "Happy Sunday to you!!!  I love y'all and I'm going to pray for papa and you mimi.  Tell papa I love him."  My heart melted, and as I read these sweet words to Papa we both felt the tears!  I answered her and told her how deeply we were touched, then, Savanna wrote,  "Love you too Layna!!!  I am also praying for y'all...I can't wait for thanksgiving!!!"

I was overwhelmed with the fact that I was talking to two of our granddaughters who love church, prayer, and the things of God!  Oh yes, my heart couldn't hold much more thankfulness, it was about to explode! As we traveled to get to service I thought about the weekend and what Monday, Nov. 11 was commemorating... Veterans Day.  That was all it took, I overwhelmed with thankfulness! The men and women who have served and are now serving, are giving of themselves to keep our beautiful America FREE!  I was getting to go to church to worship the way I wanted to worship.  I was getting to enjoy a text with my granddaughters that talked openly about prayer.  In just a few days, I will be enjoying Thanksgiving Day with a table full of food, and time with our precious family where we will offer "special thanks" to God, the One who makes all of this possible.  So, this morning on this beautiful Veterans Day '13, I want to say THANK YOU to all the veterans of America for your love and loyalty for our country!  If it wasn't for you, we wouldn't have the beautiful life we have!  We are blessed beyond measure!  We enjoy life, because...you sacrificed.

Goodbye...But Not for Long

Late this morning I was checking my newsfeed on Facebook, and ran across a post by my friend Shirley Stanley.  She was sharing that Bishop Bud Davis of the Lufkin First United Pentecostal Church had gone in for surgery this morning, and when given anesthesia, passed away.  I was shocked, as is his precious wife and family, church family, and all of the Texas District.  Our love and prayers are with Sis. Davis and family.

My morning seem to slow down a bit upon hearing the news, then after awhile I found a song being played in my mind:

Heaven will surely be worth it all.
Worth all the sorrows that here befall;
After this life with all its strife,
Heaven will surely be worth it all.

Bro. Bud Davis has gone on to his reward.  This week we will celebrate his life, and remember him for the great man he was.  I do not understand why Bro. Davis was taken from us, but one thing I do know is...Bro. Davis will meet us on the other side.  I can see him walking up as we enter the gates, and hear him saying, "I'm so glad you're here!"  Bro. Davis we will definitely be there!

Last week another warrior of the cross was ushered into Heaven's gates!  Pastor Armando Navarro, was a wonderful man of God!  He was the Pastor of Lufkin Rosa DeSaron, UPC, and also the Spanish Ministries Director of the Texas District.  Every time I saw Bro. Navarro he had a big smile on his face, and was always so kind!  What a great loss for his beautiful wife and family, his church, and our district!  Bro. Navarro, we will meet you "in the morning"...just inside the Eastern Gate.

This afternoon I was at Wal-mart, and saw Bro. Martin Navarro.  After greeting each other, we both went about doing our shopping.  I was somewhere around the bread aisle when I saw Bro. Martin again.  I told him how sorry I was about his father's passing, and he was appreciative of my condolences, then he smiled and started talking about Heaven, and how Bro. Navarro would not want to come back.  We talked a little about our loved ones who have gone on before, and about Bro. Davis passing this morning.  Bro. Martin said, "I'm sure Dad and Bro. Davis are having themselves a time!"  I couldn't agree more.  We talked about how my parents, brother, and Bro. Navarro wouldn't even think about coming back to this earth with the pain and suffering they had gone through.  They were now on the other side, and though they loved us they had "made it!"  It's only us who remain that grieve.

This evening as my husband and I drove through the country with the top down on our convertible, I looked toward the sky.  It was a clear beautiful evening with no clouds.  I couldn't get away from the two men we will greatly miss in our lives and in the Texas District.  As we drove, my mind was busy once again singing songs about our "blessed hope".

Won't it be wonderful there...having no burdens to bear...

In the sweet by and by...we shall meet on that beautiful shore...

Beulah Land...I'm longing for you...and someday on thee I'll stand...

Won't we have a time when we get over yonder...OH...won't we have a time...

Yes, two warriors...preacher's of the Gospel have said good-bye to all of us, but one of these days...we will see them, again.  I just feel like it won't be long!

Rest well Bro. Navarro and Bro. Davis...for when we all get over there we have a lot of rejoicing to do...together!

Little Impressions

The "little impression" came ever so gently, so gently that I hardly noticed it. I breathed a prayer, yet it came again, as if a feather drifting in the wind touched my thoughts. There was something about it that I couldn't ignore. I once again prayed. "Jesus, please keep your hand on Wendell as he walks outside today. Don't let him be hit by a car. I plead your blood over him in Jesus Name! Amen."

It was a little while later when my husband came back to the room. The first words out of his mouth were, "I've never come so close to being hit by a car like I was today. A policeman driving the car was coming right at me and when he was 4-6 feet from me, he jerked so he wouldn't hit me!" I breathed a prayer of thankfulness that my husband had not been hit, and that God had whispered into my spirit to pray for protection! There's power in prayer!

It amazes me how God works. I was just going about my morning when the "little impression" came. It came so softly that I could have brushed it aside and went about my day. I fully believe if prayer had not been made, if the blood of Jesus had not been applied, that Wendell would have been hit by a careless driver and badly injured, possibly killed. I'm so thankful God I listened to the "voice of God" that morning, and whispered a simple prayer.

"Oh how He loves you and me..."

He Preached With Passion

A message my dad preached when I was a teenager came to me this evening..."Seven Barriers to Hell" I do not remember all of the seven, although I'm sure I could come up with them, but I know one of the barriers was; the prayers of your mom and dad, or someone who loved you. He went on to preach..."To go to hell you will have to trample over the prayers of the ones who loved you more than life, and if you continue in your ungodliness, as you go over the precipice of hell you'll hear the voice of your mother (father) ringing in your ears...OH GOD PLEASE SAVE MY CHILD!" I cannot figure out how a person who knows truth can be so unfeeling after hearing their mom or dad crying out to God for their soul. Neither can I imagine a parent who knows truth continuing in their "happy-go-lucky-sinful way" when they know that their child's heart breaks in prayer. I thought about apologizing for such a serious, heavy post, however I feel like someone might be standing in the valley of decision. What will your answer be?
