High Tech Mimi

I had to jump on here tonight and say...I'm glad I am a high-tech Mimi! LOL! I found out late, but in time to log-on to Louisiana Camp Meeting to hear Pastor Anthony Mangun preach about taking our families to Heaven! I have claimed my family for God through the years, but I continue to claim them! I don't plan on ANYTHING taking them away from the Truth they have been taught and have lived. In Jesus Name...we WILL meet on the streets of gold.

Nation's Oldest Postal Worker Retires

I was listening to the news today and heard this story. What faithfulness!

Please Don't Give Up

Again, I'm coming to you to ask you to "not give up" coming to my blog. June has been an extremely busy month, so I haven't had the time to sit and "blog". I am looking forward to sitting down with my computer and filling in the blanks about what's been going on, soon. So...while I'm asking you to "not give up" on ME, let me just add a little encouragement.....

Don't give up on your walk with God.

Don't give up on your promise from God.

Just keep on going!

Keep on praying!

Keep on believing!

HE will answer when He knows the time is "right" for YOU!

Safe With Friends

Last week was the 64th Texas District Camp Meeting. To say we had a wonderful time would be an understatement! The comment I have heard the most from those who attended is, "This has been an "old time camp meeting". The spirit of Camp Meeting was filled with unity, therefore we had powerful moves of the Spirit. I was overwhelmed many times as I stood in the presence of God. The preaching of the Word by those who were chosen to deliver it to us was anointed and delivered with passion, clarity, and excellence! Bro. Wayne Huntley was our Evening Speaker. I really don't know why we have pews to sit on! He preached with such an anointing and I found it hard to sit down, as did many others! At times, the crowd was on their feet as he delivered his heart to us.It was wonderful having Bro. and Sis. Huntley with us. We enjoyed his preaching and her singing. The music and singing was absolutely heavenly. The music coordinators for the day chose songs from "yesteryear" coupled with songs of "today", bringing us into the presence of the King. Sis. Dedie Cooley was the Master Music Coordinator for Camp Meeting and chose all the music coordinators and specials for each day. WOW! Everyone was on the same "wave-length" and I don't know when I've been blessed by music and singing as I was this time. My soul was drinking in His presence as it flooded our hearts. For those who were unable to attend just know that you would have enjoyed being here.

We heard SOLID preaching and teaching! Bro. Dan Segraves and his wife were with us. He taught on Bible doctrine during the day. Bro. Donnie Hendrick preached about "Contending for the Faith". Bro. Jeff Story brought faith to our hearts when he preached, "Where Is God?". We heard about "Living In the Land of Hope" by Bro. Gene Holley from Wichita Falls. Bro. Brett Cooley preached a powerful message on repentance, "The Lost Message of Pentecost". All the messages were "meat for the soul" and anyone who wants to be saved could go to Heaven by listening and obeying what was preached at Texas Camp Meeting this year.

I am struggling to write this post because I have very deep emotions running through my heart and mind. There were times while standing in the presence of God that all I could think of was... "I feel so SAFE"!

SAFE...from "fear of the future" for the great organization we have chosen to be a part of.

I didn't hear one thing about "going back on the message of the Apostolic Church", or "loosening up on the standards of living" we have chosen to follow. I am happy to say, we heard what it means to "love God with all our hearts", "living a holy life unto the Lord", and "loving truth" more than ever before. We didn't hear "fluffy" preaching!

SAFE...for the future of my grandchildren. I believe "truth" is safe in the hands of the younger generation of preacher's and their wives. I feel confident that there are younger preacher's wives who are standing for the right and will help lead my granddaughters "in the way they should go".

SAFE...in the presence of my friends. Friends, who love me and would do anything for me. Friends, who are there in the good times and in the bad. Friends, who will pray for me and my family when we have a crisis in our lives. I had a friend say to me, "Isn't it wonderful being here with everyone when you're going through a trying time in life?" Yes...yes it is wonderful!

I AM SAFE

My husband called a long time friend on Saturday to just say he was happy to see he and his wife at Camp Meeting. While he was on the phone with him he said he wanted to tell me something. Wendell handed the phone to me. I was a little surprised, then I heard the familiar voice I had heard through the years. "Linda, I saw something the other night when you were standing talking to me and I have been praying for you. I just want you to know that God has heard your prayer..." He said more of which I will not disclose, but when I hung up the phone, I said to Wendell. "I feel SO SAFE! To know there are men of God who will pray for me (us) is overwhelming."

I am SAFE...because there are those who listen to the voice of God, and when they hear Him speak they take action. They do not use their "spiritual gifts" for their GAIN, but when God speaks to them they obey Him and follow the direction He leads. I know there are those I could go to at anytime and they would pray until...

I am SAFE...because I have a God that understands me and loves me even though I'm not perfect!

I am SO THANKFUL for the people I know personally that I can trust.

I am not afraid of loving, because...I have been loved.

I am not afraid of giving myself to others, because...I have been given to.

I am not afraid to reach out to those hurting, because... I have been reached to.

I am not afraid for I AM SAFE...in the presence of God and my friends.

I thank God for my heritage in the United Pentecostal Church. I am so glad I am a part of the greatest Apostolic movement that has ever been. And, as my husband said so adequately the other night..."I don't want to hear any griping about it." :)

Have a great week! I will try and be back in a few days. Crusader's Camp is starting in 15 minutes and I am EXCITED! I am going to make my way to the camp ground in a little while to see what is happening. It's going to be FUN!

Wrapped In Arms of Love

It was a quiet morning. I was getting dressed for the day, and planning on getting on the road to Wichita Falls when I heard a little voice, "Mimi, I'm cold!" I looked down at my little three year old granddaughter who was standing in the doorway looking up at me with those big, beautiful eyes that are always full of expression. I noticed she had a "snuggle blanket" wrapped around her and at that moment it didn't matter if the world stopped spinning, I was going to stop and hold her until she got warm! I looked at her and asked, "Do you want me to hold you?" Her little head nodded up and down and I reached down and wrapped her up. Holding her close I walked over to the rocker and rocked. She never said another word, and neither did I. We were both content to relax and rock. She went to sleep and I enjoyed the quiet morning for a little longer.

I got on the road.

I don't know when it happened. But, I remembered...

There have been times in life when I was "cold". I really didn't know where to turn, except to my Heavenly Father. I could hear myself saying, "Jesus, I'm cold!" No, I didn't say it quite like that, but in essence I did, and it was at that very moment I felt Him stop what He was doing, reach down, wrap me in His arms, and rock. It didn't matter what it was that made me "cold", I just needed to feel His love and strength warming my heart, and as it did I was contented to......stay awhile.

I really believe I felt the heart of my heavenly Father that morning as I sat and cradled Ashlyn in my arms. I realized once again that anytime I tell Jesus what it is I'm feeling, He WANTS to stop and make my world better.

Come to think of it...I really believe He ENJOYS those times with ME!

Memories and More Memories Made

It's been a real busy week. Maybe I should rephrase that and say, "It's been ANOTHER busy week". Now, I feel better! LOL!

Wendell was gone this past week to be with his brothers in San Diego. Since Mom and Pop Elms have gone on to Heaven, the Elms brothers have had a "Brother's Reunion" every year. There's not a whole lot that stops them from getting together on that special week, so, while Wendell was gone I pulled things together here at home and headed to Balch Springs to see my kids and grandkids. The Shoemake's were also ministering in the Wednesday night service at Greater Apostolic Tabernacle, and I wanted to see them. The church really enjoyed their mininstry and Andrew loved having his Aunt Bobbie in HIS church. When Mother passed away Bobbie became his "grandmother" and his emotions ran deep as he spoke about her.
Of course, "Aunt Bobbie" had to sing and she sung a lot and we enjoyed every note and word!"Uncle Jimmy" ministered and did a wonderful job. Andrew enjoyed introducing him to "his people". Mandy and I fixed tacos after church and YES they were DELICIOUS! :) We had a wonderful time being together. I love anytime I'm with friends and family!

Andrew and Uncle Jimmy were visiting and I walked in to see this. Alayna was mesmerized as she listened to her Daddy talk about fishing and hunting. It was priceless!

I then traveled to Wichita Falls for my nephew, Cameron's, High School Graduation. I am so proud of Cameron and the young man that he has become. He lives for God with all his heart, and made good grades in school. He was in the top 10% for his grades in his class, and that's a lot to be proud of!Here's the proud parents and brother with Cameron. Sis. Connie Bernard, her daughter, Lindsey, and Sis. Sharpe, Sis. Bernard's mother were there to celebrate with Cameron. It was great getting to visit with them for a couple of days. Sis. Sharpe is a beautiful person. Since being around her I saw why Sis. Bernard is the way she is. Training comes from the home, and when a person is "led in the way they should go" she (he) has the opportunity to "excel in life". That doesn't mean the person who "has not been taught" does not have the same opportunity, but they will find it harder to "become", more than one who has proper training.

Well...I wasn't going to teach a lesson in this post!!! I guess it's just inside and sometimes has to come out! :) OK....on we go....

What I was going to say is...What a beautiful, sweet, First Lady we have to follow in the United Pentecostal Church! I am blessed to call her "friend".Uncle C.W. and Aunt Gloria came through Wichita Falls on their way home from their long vacaiton, so I got to see them again! That was another treat I got while there. Here's C.W. and Sharon looking at pictures and catching up.I love this picture of Aunt Gloria and Sis. Bernard waiting for the graduation exercises to start.I had many occasions to visit with friends and family on this trip. It was so much fun! Keith and Carla, Mallory and Taylor were there. I even had a chance to hear Mallory play the piano! She played some beautiful classical music and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I asked her to play "at least one song for me", but when I heard her I wanted to hear more. She was gracious to grant me that favor, and I will always remember the first time I heard Mallory play! The shy girl she has always been has become a lovely lady! Taylor is quiet when I'm around her, but she's a sweetheart. I love her gorgeous red hair, fair skin, and beautiful smile! God has a lot in store for her and I'm anxious to see how He uses her for His glory.

I could keep naming people, but I've already left some out. Not because I want to, but because you don't want to read all night or day. Just let me say...if I saw you I LOVED every smile, hug, or time we got to visit.

I enjoyed Sunday morning service at Life Tabernacle. They know how to have CHURCH, and I loved every minute of it. The special guest speaker was Western District Superintendent, Ron Mullings, so I got to be with him and Sis. Mullings! What a great time of fellowship we all had as we enjoyed "dinner on the ground" and "Friend Day"!

It was a 5th Sunday, so there was no Sunday night service. By the time we all got home no one said much of anything, because the weekend had been full of activity. Gene, Karla, Cameron, and myself "chilled" for several hours, then went to eat, again. Sharon met us and I enjoyed her company. Chad went to play golf and to "socialize" with friends. I think he was pretty happy with his game! GO CHAD!

I took this picture of Chad sometime while we were all still enough to get a picture. I thought about going shopping with Karla Monday morning, but she was too tired, and I was ready to get home to my husband. He had flown into Houston on Saturday evening and I was anxious to be home to him!

I really could have taken Jazzy home with me, but I couldn't get out the door with her. If I had driven off with her, I would have been hunted down and arrested! I'm sure of it!

I Wonder...Just Wonder

What is heaven going to be like?

My mind gets to thinking about it all, and after I've thought about all the beauty that is there, of which there is no way to even imagine, my thoughts wander back to what is really going to make it special.

1. Jesus will be what makes it Heaven for me.

2. Seeing my loved ones who have already gone "home".

3. Seeing my sons and their beautiful wives, and our granddaughters "over there". I can see them as they look around, trying to take in the FACT that "we've made it"! I know we will all be totally overwhelmed with the realization that......this is HEAVEN!

4. Meeting up with friends who made it to the other side before I did.

5. Meeting saints from all over the world, for the FIRST time!

6. Worship, praise, and adoring our Savior and King!

There is so much more that will make it Heaven, but the one thing I think of are the relationships I have made here on earth. As you see, #1 is Jesus...my Savior. I have a beautiful relationship with Him! I'm so glad I know Him, love Him and serve Him. He's the One that makes my life worth living. If it had not been for the Lord....where would I be?

Then, to think about seeing my family when we all get over there...wow...talk about laughing! We love to laugh when we're together here, but when we all actually realize we're in Heaven...well...the angels will have to step aside, because we are going to have a PARTY!

Tonight I was at a special meeting here in Lufkin. Go 2 Heaven Lufkin was wonderful! There were several UPC churches that gathered at the Civic Center tonight for a crusade. Eastview UPC and Pastor Hunt was the "host church" and they did a wonderful job of organizing a powerful service for the community. The music was great, the program of the service was well-planned, and the preaching by Pastor Hunt was anointed and very powerful. There were a lot of people in the altars, and I know some received the Holy Ghost.

When the altar call was given I went forward. I wanted to be where the action was, and there was a lot of "action". I smiled at one of the ladies from Cornerstone church as she was praying for a lady. Then, she stopped and told me "who" this lady was that was needing a touch from God. I couldn't believe it! I had stopped to pray for a lady that was raised in a church in Allison, TX where my parents had pastored before I was born. After she finished praying, I started explaining about this, and she said, "I know. I've already heard." :) I loved it! I then stepped back to speak to Sis. Clifton Boydston from Allison who remembered my parents. The lady I had been praying with was her daughter! It really is a small world!

After church, I went to eat with the "singles". My husband was not there because he is out of town, so I decided to go and enjoy the fellowship...and of course to EAT! :) I was sitting there and two of the ladies told me they remembered my parents and brother from a "long time ago", and I was overwhelmed once again about how neat it is to be raised in the church, and to remain a part of the people you were brought up to love and appreciate. I was so thankful that my parents had been part of an organization that they loved and respected, and that they took us to meetings in the district and to national meetings so that I could meet others "just like me".

As I write, my mind thinks about the awesomeness of Truth, and how great it is to have friendships/acquaintances from all over the world. These people love Truth with every fiber of their being! They would give their lives for "so great salvation"! I know a lot of these people personally, and I know the strong devotion they have for God, and the love they have for one another. These friendships have "stood the test of time", and the Truth is what has been our "common denominator". True, pure love from these beautiful people has kept me through the years, and has given me a solid foundation upon which to build strong relationships that have not crumbled.

No wonder when we all come together in one big meeting we can feel comfortable! Truth has set us free from the bondage of sin, and the attitudes that would divide. I'm thankful for God's love that we've been given, and I am thankful for the love of "fellow travelers" who have realized that we are only "passing through this land" and that our time here on earth is not for long. We have seen the "lights of home" and we intend to walk through the gates of that beautiful city, and we will enjoy walking on streets of purest gold...together.

What is Heaven going to be like? I guess we'll have to wait and see, but I think I've got a pretty good idea, because I've had a little taste of Heaven here on earth!

My Heart Sings

Last night we went to the Installation Service for Pastor Jeff and Lee Jones. The presence of the Lord was felt throughout the service. One of the ministers that was introduced sang the chorus of this beautiful song: "Just to Walk With Him". My mind, my heart, my soul was like a sponge as I recognized the words to this song has been and still is my very heartbeat! I don't want anything to take the place of my time with Jesus! Here are the words.

Just to walk with Him means everything to me.
Just to know He's there and His hand is leading me.
Though the world may pass me by, go their way, let me be.
Just to walk with Him means everything to me.

For the last few days my heart has been singing songs of "yesterday", and as I sat at my piano here in my home, I felt the strength and power of the songs that kept flooding my mind. As I would sing I felt His presence come close.

I've been on the mountain with Jesus.
I've been in the valley so low.
But not one time has He failed me.
When to Him with my burdens I go.

So let me walk with you Jesus.

Don't ever leave me alone.
For without you I could never.
No, never make heaven my home.

Then...

What can He do with a life that's steeped in sin?
What can He do with no hope of life within?
Lift up the fallen man, out of the sinking sand,
Through Calvary's saving plan.
That's what He can do!

What can He do for you? Low helpless, sad, and blue?
He'll do what other friends can never do.
He hears each time you pray.
Drives all the doubts away.
Turns darkest night to day.
That's what He can do.

Who wouldn't want to serve Jesus Christ? He NEVER goes back on His promises. He has been what He said He would be in my life!

I could go on and on "singing" these songs because they are in my heart and I love to sing, but I will stop for now. I trust you all have a wonderful Sunday in the presence of the King!

Oh, I just can't stop without this song that came to my mind. It was written by my dear friend: Bobbie Shoemake

It won't be long now, 'til we see Jesus.
It won't be long, 'til He appears.
The lights of glory are shining brighter.
And I just feel it won't be long.

When the trumpet sounds, I will meet you all on the other side! We just might hear it this week!

Won't we have a time when we get over yonder?

No Regrets

I almost couldn't sleep last night. My spirit was stirred, my head was whirling, my stomach was aching and I felt like I was going to be very sick. The terrible thing was, that it wasn't a virus that made me feel this way. I'm sure you want to know "why" I was having such a terrible night, but I do not want to get into all the reasons. I just want to say, "I understand more than ever that the MOST IMPORTANT thing in life has been that Wendell and I would live in such a way in our personal lives and home that our sons would have the chance to be saved!! Tonight, as I look down the road behind me, and remember the choices we made for our home, and observe things as they are today, I can thankfully and humbly say...

I HAVE NO REGRETS...in the way Wendell and I chose to raise our sons.

I HAVE NO REGRETS...In the message of "separation and holiness unto the Lord" that my husband preached to our churches we were privileged to pastor. And I'm thankful that the saints of those churches lived what they heard coming from their Pastor, and that they were godly examples for our sons to follow.

I HAVE NO REGRETS...That we didn't allow our boys to play sports in school.

I know there are a lot of opinions about this subject, but I'm just saying what I'm glad WE did and didn't do. Both of our sons were very athletic and were approached by coaches to "play ball". We guided them away from it and prayed Jonathan and Andrew would understand our reasoning, would be obedient to us as their parent's, and would have a good attitude about not playing. We had a lot of fun at home, on vacations, in church, at church functions that we were involved in. We taught them that "church life" and "living for God" was FUN! They certainly didn't suffer from "a boring life". I thank God that He helped us with this decision and our boys never played "school sports". I do not boast, nor am I condemning anyone for what they may have allowed, but in the long run I must say "we made the right choice for our family".

I HAVE NO REGRETS...

That we were very careful in the "friendships WE had", because we knew "spirits and attitudes" of others could affect our sons and their decisions later in life. Yes, there were times we were invited to "go and do something with friends that may not have been sin", but looked down the road and tried to assess where it might lead us and our sons if we allowed ourselves to participate?

I HAVE NO REGRETS...

That we did not "go on vacation" with those who were "suppose to believe the same Bible truths we did", yet dressed in such a way that was diametrically opposed to what we taught our sons and saints, whom God had placed in our care. It wasn't always easy to make those decisions, because it could cause a separation from those we loved, but there was a question that nagged at our minds. "What if we go and the boys see them dressed like that and since they love and respect OUR friends they start questioning Bible doctrines we hold to? What if the "spirit of the world" is born in their hearts? When we look back down the road in a few years, will we "kick ourselves" for allowing our "looseness" to affect the spirituality of our sons?

I know I'm playing hardball according to some, but the most important thing to me and my husband was that our sons were saved! We had a healthy "fear of God" that would not allow us to give into the pressures of the age. No, we were not perfect in parenting. Yes, we made mistakes, but I believe God saw the desire of our hearts and honored our prayers for our sons, and the "stand" we took in our home. I still pray for them that they will be strong in Truth, separated from the world in dress and conduct, that they will love God with all of their hearts, mind, soul, and strength. I pray they will keep a clean reputation, and that they will not be swayed to let go of what they know is right by those around who have "found freedom from the bondage they were raised with". I pray they will lead their families in the "way of righteousness" and that we will all hear, "Well done thou good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of the Lord forever". There is nothing more disturbing to me than to think about my children and grandchildren being deceived into thinking "it's just not necessary anymore"!

For anyone who would think I'm being too transparent in what I am saying, I'm sorry. Maybe me being transparent will help young parents stop and ask themselves some important questions that will help them make "right decisions" for their family. I do not want anyone to be offended. That is not my purpose for writing. Just let me ask one more time: If WE do not take a stand for the Truth and all we hold dear...how will our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren be saved? If we do not "hold on to what we know is right"...how will WE be saved?

I could go on and say more, but those of you who read my blog and know me well know where I am coming from. You understand my heart. I am confident in that!

I plead with all of us to "live our lives" so that we can say...

I HAVE NO REGRETS!

Note: For those who have children who are not living for God...keep praying, believing and trusting that since you taught them and "trained them in the way they should go" you will see them "come back home where they belong". When they start down the lane heading home we will all be standing with open arms to welcome them! A message I heard when our boys were young gave me hope that "if we put the right ingredients into their baskets and they chose to reach in and throw all of it away and not live for God, we could be confident we had done our best"! Therefore, we could say, "I have no regrets." I pray God's tender mercies will follow your wayward son or daughter, and not let them forget what they know is "right".

Happy Birthday Daddy

Today is my Daddy's birthday. If he was still with us here on earth he would be 80 years old! I really miss Daddy and his wisdom. He was a man of true love, true character and true wisdom.

I would like to sit down and talk to him about all the events that have taken place over the last few years in just "my families" life. He would be so proud of Wendell and all he is doing. His heart would swell with pride over his grandsons and the churches they pastor. I can hear him giving Jonathan and Andrew advice and then telling them they're "doing a great job". Then, he would say, "You're just a chip off the ole block". Of course, meaning himself! :) I can hear him telling me he loves me and then turning around and saying something about my husband, whom he loved very much. Yes, I miss his deep booming voice, and the "whisker hugs" he would give me just when his face needed to be shaved!!!

But, I can say without hesitation, one of the things I miss the most is hearing him talk about Heaven! Daddy LOVED to sit and talk, but when it came to his favorite subject Heaven, he could talk for hours about what he thought it would be like. The walls of jasper, gates of pearl, Jesus on the throne, worship and praise, and heavenly music all around. He loved quoting Revelations 21, and I loved hearing him quote it, and it seemed as if all of heaven came down! I wish he was here today so that he could experience all the benefits of his dedication and love for truth. But, since he is not here...I have NO DOUBT that he is HAPPY where he is in HEAVEN...(happy home above).

So, on this day, his 80th birthday let me say once again...

"Daddy, it won't be long till we will see you again. We know where you will be when we enter the gates of that city you preached about all my life. We know where you'll be waiting for us, and as soon as we can make our way through the streets of that city, we will meet you "in front of the throne". I can't give you a gift that is bought with money, but I can and will give you the gift of "meeting you again in front of the throne". When we get there we will have one BIG PARTY and it won't even matter what age you're suppose to be, for we will live on forever with a brand new body that will never grow old!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DADDY! We will all see you again soon!

Relaxing Day

Today was one of those days we did exactly what we wanted to do...which wasn't much! Being on vacation is suppose to be that way. You're suppose to "wake up when you WANT to", "go to bed when you WANT to", "eat what you WANT to and when you WANT to"! LOL! That's exactly how we do vacation. If you don't WANT to do anything, don't! Whatever makes you happy and helps you RELAX...do it, or... don't do it! That's my "philosophy for a great vacation"!

I have been reading a book, my sister Karla told me about, and it has been so good for my mind. The book is written by: Joyce Meyer and the Title is: "Eat the cookie...buy the Shoes". I'm sure I don't have to say it, but just for the record, "I don't agree with everything in the book, but I do agree with the concept." So many people live under a "cloud of guilt" and they need to "lighten up and enjoy life". You cannot go back and change what's already happened, but you can go forward and have a life full of JOY!

You know...it's good to go on vacation! I've had people tell me they "never go on vacation because they don't have the time or the money". You don't have to have a lot of money to go on vacation. You can find something that will bring you relaxation just about anywhere. What do you ENJOY? Where are some places close to home, or maybe in your city/town that you feel peaceful when you visit? I think you understand what I'm saying. You really NEED to take time off and enjoy letting your mind rest! We get so caught up with "life" and the pressure sometimes overwhelms us. EVERYONE needs a break from it all. When you decide to go on vacation try not to plan every second so full that you don't have time to stop and rest! Sometimes it's good to "do nothing"! If you don't now "how"...then learn "how" by DOING NOTHING!

Well, I guess that's my sermon for this Saturday evening. I think I could teach a good Sunday lesson on this subject! Come to think of it...I HAVE taught on "making memories and enjoying life". Maybe "I" should have written that book!

Have a great Sunday!

My Birthday Celebration Day

When I woke up today I picked up my phone and saw that I had two missed calls from very dear friends calling to wish me a Happy Birthday. I called them back and had a wonderful time talking to them. They have been a part of my life for 26 years and have been loyal, dependable, caring and loving all those years. Thank you, "dear friends" for calling me today!

I then went to my Facebook and saw that I had 80 plus messages from friends and family!!!! For the last two days I had been receiving many Birthday Wishes, so when I saw so many more people who had written, I was totally overwhelmed. The messages have still been coming in this evening and my heart is full and running over! I am blessed to have you all in my life and I count it a privilege to be called "your friend"! Thank you for all of the beautiful, heartfelt words you shared with me today. I loved hearing from people from coast to coast, from foreign soil, and from a dear friend from Prince Edward Island, Canada. I also received text messages, and email wishes from dear friends and family! As I said last night....I AM BLESSED!

I have also talked to our children, and heard the sweet voices of my granddaughters. They made me SO HAPPY! The sweet voices of Jonathan and Brenda, Andrew and Mandy, and all four of my granddaughters is "music to my ears".

This morning my husband turned over in bed, whispered "happy birthday", gave me a sweet kiss, and turned over and went back to sleep! YES! I was so excited that he was actually "sleeping in". That in itself was a wonderful "birthday present" to ME! After we decided to get up and get dressed we took another drive. This time we went to the City of Coronado and saw the beautiful Hotel del Coronado. The grounds are meticulously cared for and the flowers are gorgeous. This picture was taken across the street from Hotel del Coronado. After leaving there we drove across the Silver Strand to the border of California and Mexico. It was quite a drive and we enjoyed seeing all the sights. We saw an RV area on the beach and I was wishing I had a motor home! It would be so much fun to camp there for a few nights. Maybe someday the Lord will allow us to have another one! (got a little sidetracked...sorry :) We drove on and when we got close to the border it was "bumper to bumper" traffic going across the border into Mexico. I don't know if that is a "normal" day or just the weekend traffic, but I wondered why there was so many people wanting to go across. So many questions....not enough answers!

We drove back to San Diego, then on to find a Foster's Freeze! My husband had already researched the whereabouts of one and took us right to it. I have so many memories at Foster's Freeze from when I was a little girl, so anytime I am in California I find the nearest one and go get me an Orange Freeze. Oh, they are so DELICIOUS! They taste like a 50/50 ice cream bar and Foster's Freeze is the only place I know that make them so delicious! After all these years they are still the same. I must go back in time: When I was a tiny, little girl I remember Mother giving me a bath, putting me in my pajamas, and taking me to the car to go for a ride. Daddy would get in the car and start driving. We drove through Fresno, sometimes through the park, and then on to Foster's Freeze to get an ice cream cone. Those were the BEST ice cream cones I had ever eaten! We never went home until the last drop was eaten and by the time we arrived home it was time for bed. I loved crawling under the covers and letting the "window cooler" blow across the foot of my bed, and I loved "hunkering down" in the soft covers. Those nights were like heaven to this "little girl". So, now you know why I love Foster's Freeze!

To top off my "birthday celebration" I chose to go to Tio Leo's to eat. We thought about going to a restaurant that overlooked the bay to watch the sunset, but loving California Mexican food like we do, I chose to go eat at this "home-grown restaurant" here in San Diego. It was delicious!I can truthfully and honestly say, "today I didn't worry about diet"! :)

It has been a lovely birthday! How could I ask for anything greater? Great family, great friends, great food, and all of this has been given to me by my GREAT GOD!

Today Is My Birthday

Today is my birthday and I'm with my husband in beautiful San Diego! We have been having a wonderful vacation and enjoying the ocean scenes, and all the gorgeous flowers that grow so effortlessly in this city. Today we went out to LaJolla Cove to enjoy the sunset. The weather has been so beautiful since we arrived. It's been in the middle to upper 60's! At times I have had to put on a jacket. I'm just not use to the "chill" that comes off of the ocean, but I'm enjoying it!There is so much to say about "where I am at this time in my life".

I am so blessed... that "my children walk with the Lord".

I am blessed... to have FOUR gorgeous granddaughters!

I am blessed to have two awesome "daughters-in-law" who chose to marry my two incredible sons!

I am blessed... to have my loving husband, whom I have loved since I was 12 years old! We have now been married 37 years! I think we're just starting to "fall in love"! LOL! Loving him has been my JOY, and going through this life with him has been wonderful! I am blessed... to have my sisters, Ronda and Karla. They are wonderful sisters! I love being with them anytime we can be together...and I love their husbands and families, too. We laugh a lot when we're together, and just have FUN!

And, I am blessed... to have my friends. They mean the world to me!!! They are "there" with me through my sorrows and joys. God gave them to me, and I love having them in my life!

God has been so GOOD to me! I have nothing to complain about, and everything to be "thankful for". HE is the reason I have such a lovely life.

I am blessed and I am so thankful that I know HIM!

We will be here for awhile longer, and each day I am going to enjoy it to the fullest!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

I am blessed....

Ashamed of Myself

I was sitting here tonight enjoying a time of relaxation when I got a question on Facebook about my blog. Some friends were wanting to get on to show their family. After I answered them I felt so terrible that I had not posted ANYTHING recently! If you are still coming to my blog to read what has been happening in our lives, please forgive me for not posting. I really am going to try and do better!

P.S. Welcome to any "new comers". If you read through my blog you will see at one time I was very active on it. :)

TRUE LOYALTY

I read this article on Shirley Buxton's blog and I want to say thank you to her for sharing it with all of us. My husband and I were privileged to have Bro. and Sis. Pugh preach for us in both of the churches we pastored, and it was an honor for us to have them in our home. I cannot begin to tell of the loss I feel at the time of this writing. Bro. and Sis. Pugh are heroes in my life and I give them honor for all the years they served us in the United Pentecostal Church International.

True loyalty is getting harder to find in this day, so I want to say THANK YOU to the men and women, such as J.T. and Bessie Pugh who have remained loyal to God and our great UPCI organization. We are people who love God, love each other, and want to go "walking through the gates of Heaven" TOGETHER!

“In this Fellowship, we will die and be buried.”

Many of you who read here will be familiar with Brother and Sister J. T. Pugh and will understand my extensive interest in their deaths…and in their lives. For you who have not had the privilege of knowing them–either closely or from a distance–I want to say that Rev. Pugh, for many years, has been an integral part of the United Pentecostal Church, and both he and his wife are widely admired and respected. He was a gentle, but powerful minister of the Gospel. From the Apostolic News I bring here a brief autobiography written a few years ago by Brother Pugh.

On August 20, 1944, I was married to a beautiful, dedicated, young lady. Bessie Beryl Halbrooks has been the greatest event of my life, besides Jesus Christ. She was the first and only girl I ever dated. She bore three wonderful children; “Datha Dees, Terry and Nathanael Pugh. We have been married for sixty years and I love her more now than I ever have. She has been so very faithful and supportive.
-
While we were still in college and she taught school, we pastored briefly in Hillsboro, Texas. During our short pastorate, the attendance tripled. We grew from an attendance of five to a robust fifteen in number. Perhaps we over did it and were getting too large. One Sunday night after church, the main leader of the church told me that they no longer wanted me as pastor. So we walked away with a heavy heart.
-
After graduating from Bible School, my wife and I traveled as evangelist for a short time. We did not own a car and knew that there was little likelihood that we would ever own one. I did not have the money to buy her bus ticket to our first revival after we married. I left her at the bus station in tears.
-
We were called to pastor in Wichita Falls, Texas in 1945. World War II had just come to a close. The military base closed and the city went into a slump. The church shrunk in size. We had the privilege of preaching in Life Tabernacle, in Wichita Falls in the year of 2000. Pastor Wendell Elms was so kind. Over 400 people worshipped in a large beautiful building on a splendid location. My heart swelled with gratitude.
-
The next day my wife and I drove by the corner on “Kemp and Jay” where the little dwelling house had been converted into a place of worship. We recalled on Sunday night, we would count the money the people had handed us that weekend. If it was more than $2.50 we would walk to a drug store and drink a lime aid. We only bought one drink but asked for two straws. There were quiet a few Sunday nights we did not get a lime aid. Our offering had been less than $2.50.
-
From 1946 to 1948, we evangelized. During this time we purchased a car.
We went to West Lake, Louisiana to reopen a work that had been closed. There our first child, “Datha Jo” was born. We only stayed in West Lake 1-1/2 years, but God greatly blessed. We were able to leave eighty wonderful saints behind, a finished parsonage and a self supporting work. To God be the glory for the large church there now so well pastored by Mark R. Stanton.
-
In 1949, at age twenty-seven, Bessie and I moved to Port Arthur, Texas to pastor “The First Pentecostal Church.” We lived and ministered there for seventeen years. The Lord raised up a strong congregation, a new parsonage and a new church building.
-
In January of 1967, the General Board of the United Pentecostal Church appointed me, to fill the unexpired term of Haskell Yadon, as “General Home Missions Director.” After filling that office for six years, we withdrew from it feeling this to be the will of God. We thank God for the wonder, the growth, and vision that God brought to the United Pentecostal Church. I am grateful for the faithful work of great men who served in the Home Missions Department in those days. I appreciate the privilege of working with S.W. Chamber, my General Superintendent.
Bessie and I felt it God’s will to come to Odessa, Texas in 1974 to pastor “The First United Pentecostal Church.” For nineteen years, we enjoyed revival and growth. During our pastorate, God gave us a new building with a 1,000 seat auditorium. Also, I had the privilege for eight years of serving the Texico District as their District Superintendent.
-
At this time both Bessie and I are eighty years old. We love the United Pentecostal Church. We witnessed its beginning and hopefully contributed in a small way to its growth. It has been our home since its beginning. In this fellowship we will die and be buried.
-
Sis. Shirley Buxton wrote: And now as a culmination to a beautiful love story, together they lie in state in the United Pentecostal Church in Odessa, Texas…well, their bodies lie there…but their spirits are dancing away in that eternal blissful city…directly now in the presence of God.

Pensacola, FL Weekend with The Kinsey's

Last summer at our Camp Meeting, Bro. Brian Kinsey was our night evangelist. While he was here he mentioned to my husband that he wanted him to come minister at his church in Pensacola. We looked forward to going to the Kinsey's church for almost a year, so when we actually did get to go, we were happy and excited. We were not disappointed! We had fantastic services! Sunday night while my husband preached under the anointing of the Holy Ghost people started coming to the altar rejoicing and believing God for miracles in their lives. It was wonderful! You can tell by the love of the people that Bro. and Sis. Kinsey are great leaders. They were both tired from having been gone teaching a marriage seminar on Saturday, plus all the other ministry they are involved in, but we had a very nice time with them.

Here's my husband waiting for church to start.Pastor Brian Kinsey and Wendell during service. I think it's offering time. They had already given their offering. The choir did a great job!Bro. Kinsey giving baptismal certificates in the Sunday Evening service. Revival is Happening!Sis. Lanette Kinsey. She's a wonderful lady!We enjoyed the choir and music led by Bro. David Geri. Actually, I had forgotten that he was from Pensacola, so when I saw him standing in the foyer on Sunday morning I was really surprised! The music was phenomenal! Being a lover of music, and having been involved in playing and singing for many years I always enjoy listening to musicians who love to play for the glory of God. We enjoyed visiting with Bro. and Sis. Geri as they caught up on what's happening in Texas, and we caught up on what's happening in their lives.

Bro. David Geri and Wendell had a good long visit. After a great weekend, we left Pensacola on Monday, and made it back home in time to start preparing for Texas Women's Conference 2010. It's going to be GREAT!

Western District Ladies Conference 2010 - a week with family and friends...

After returning home from our trip to Savoy and Denison, I got SICK! I was in the middle of preparing to go speak in California at the Western District Ladies Conference, and I was SICK! I couldn't believe it! Just when I needed to be focusing on what I was going to be speaking on, I didn't have TIME to be sick, but here I was, in the bed, stuffy head, nose, scratchy throat, achy, and no energy! Of course, I did all I could to prepare for the upcoming event. I finally got to feeling a little better, pulled myself and things together and packed for conference.

My husband was in the middle of board meetings, so Cynthia Koontz took me to the airport in Houston. We had a good visit on the way and actually found the terminal I was to fly out of. I was pretty proud of "US". :) I had "okay" flights. If you know me very well, I do not like flying! I would rather get in a car or motorhome and drive "cross-country" anyday! If I could never fly again I would be HAPPY! But, since so many times we need to be at a location that is a "several days journey" in a short amount of time, flying comes in handy. I was real thankful that I wasn't afraid to fly this time. Usually, I'm nervous, but I feel like God took that fear away, and I'm so glad!

Ronda met me at the airport in San Jose. It was so good seeing her! I miss having her and the family here in Texas, so anytime I get to be with her or Karla is a real treat! The next day we drove to Sacramento to the Western District Ladies Conference...I knew the Lord had given me what I was going to speak about, so when I got sick I wasn't too surprised. But, when I got to the hotel and ran into another situation and had to change rooms, I KNEW the devil was on his war path! I went to church that night, enjoyed the service, heard Sis. Cyvonne Davy from Florida - she was dynamite, got a bite to eat, then went to my room. I got ready for bed, got my notes, sat down in the bed, got comfortable, put my glasses on and started reviewing. When all of a sudden, the side of my nose was in PAIN! I couldn't believe it! I took my glasses off and trying to see what was happening I noticed the nose piece on my glasses was twisted and split! I couldn't figure out what it was doing. Finally, I got the nose piece turned back around where I could at least study, then called Ronda. I was in a TIZZY! I was to speak first thing in the morning, and I couldn't speak if I couldn't SEE! Then, I got mad! MAD AT THE DEVIL! I knew he was trying his best to distract me from what I was suppose to do the next day, so I told him he wasn't going to win this battle! I am telling this, not to glorify the "enemy", but to glorify GOD for giving me the VICTORY! For, it's through HIM that we can defeat the forces of hell that come against us! To GOD be the GLORY!!!! The next morning my dear friend Sharon Keyes took me to an optometrist to get my glasses fixed. The lady came out of the room after fixing them and said, "I have never seen anything like this before. This was twisted!" She didn't know what she was saying, but I knew.

It is hard for me to describe my feelings here on this post, because they run very deep. I don't know that I could even tell you the depth of my gratitude for the opportunity to speak in my "HOME DISTRICT" if I was talking to you personally. I have awesome, wonderful, "life memories" from growing up in California. Going "home" and speaking to ladies I have loved and respected through the years, ladies who gave of themselves and let me see what a true Christian is suppose to be, ladies who exampled JESUS to me, and told me God would use me if I would be willing to be used by him....these wonderful ladies were the ones I was going to be speaking in front of. It was so humbling to me, yet so VERY exciting! If you were at the conference you understand what I am saying, and why I am saying it. :)

Sis. Mullings and the ladies board did a wonderful job organizing the Ladies Conference. My sister, Ronda is the Ladies Ministry Secretary and she works beside Sis. Mullings and the ladies on the board putting this conference together. I wish I could stand and CHEER for a job well done!

Sis. Gwyn Oakes, our National Ladies Ministry President of the UPCI graced the conference. She is a beautiful, godly leader and I was thrilled to spend this time with her. She is a friend to all and is wonderful to be around!

Sis. Cyvonne Davy, was the night speaker. She was anointed and spoke with POWER! I enjoyed meeting her and having a few times to visit with her.

It was my honor to speak in the same service as Bro. Mullings preached in. At first, I couldn't believe that I was going to be speaking in front of HIM! I was a little nervous, to tell the truth, but very honored that he would be there supporting me. :)

The Gordon Sisters were the praise and worship leaders, and special singers. They blend together so beautifully. There's something about a "family of singers" that sounds so good!

The last day of the conference is a Luncheon for the ladies and we had so much fun! Before I spoke I had the privilege of publicly thanking my dear friend, Bobbie Shoemake for all she had meant to me through my life. Then, I said, "If I had the time...I would have Sis. Shoemake come sing." That's all I said, and the ladies clapped and clapped, and yelled until she came to the platform to sing!!! I'm so GLAD I got to hear her before returning home. She still has a velvet voice and is my favorite singer! When she started playing the piano and singing there was a blanket of God's presence that enveloped us. For a few minutes it felt like Heaven!

You don't have enough time, nor do I have enough room to write all about it. I just have to say that I was blessed beyond measure while I was there. Life long friends, new friends, the presence of God, and the unity of the ladies who attended the conference touched my heart very deeply.

Note: I didn't get to take a lot of pictures. The photographer will be sending me the pictures she took, so the few I took I put in a slide show for you to enjoy.
After the conference, and lunch with Bobbie and Nanci, I went home with Ronda and Danelle. Saturday Evening, Nathan told me he would like for me to speak at the Sunday Service. I immediately told him "NO"...(I was TIRED)...then I felt bad. I really couldn't imagine I would ever be the MAIN SPEAKER at my brother-in-laws church! I went to bed and went to sleep. When I woke up on Sunday morning I KNEW I was suppose to speak! God had given me something before leaving home, but I didn't know where I was going to share it. It didn't go with what I was speaking at the ladies conference. So, when I woke up the Lord brought to mind what He had impressed upon me at home. I told Nathan I would speak and he graciously accepted. :) I'm so glad GOD showed up...because "without HIM I could not have done it"! Again, I say "TO GOD BE THE GLORY"! Nathan and Ronda told me I did a good job....and that made me feel good. :)

They took me to eat in Monterey at the Chart House. It overlooks the ocean and it was a beautiful evening. We had a lot of family fun, and laughed until I was in extreme pain from laughing so hard! LOL! Ronda and I also got to see Bobbie and Nanci again and have lunch with them and Rachel, a "new friend" that I had only met through FB. We had a wonderful time just "being together". Bro. Shoemake had been sick, but I got to visit with him for a short time before returning home.

Then...Ronda took me back to the airport to fly back home to Texas. I hated leaving her in California, and leaving my family and friends, but I was ready to be home to my sweet husband! And...he was ready for me to be HOME!

To sum it all up....it was a wonderful week!

I got home and rested a few days...and we were back on the road to....

(check back in a few days and I will continue the story)

Savoy Weekend

We were invited by our good friend, Virgil Cornwell to preach at his church in Savoy, TX and we had an awesome time! The Cornwell's are more "longtime friends" of ours. We preached for them in Allison, TX back in the 70's. If you've never been to Allison, you just don't know what you're missing. :) There's a lot of stories to tell about that time in our lives, but I won't. Not in this post, anyway. But, knowing the Virgil and Nancy Cornwell has been one of our JOYS in life! I am not exaggerating when I say, they have been some of our favorite people. They are true Christians, loving and caring, always the same, and have loved us and our boys through the years. There is no price tag that can be placed on friendships like this. As you can tell, we enjoyed going to Savoy! We had some great services. The saints in Savoy were very warm and welcomed us with open arms. It's always wonderful being able to walk into a church and you feel at "home" the first time you step through the door.

Sunday afternoon dinner was at the Cornwell's house and we had a delicious meal with part of the family. I didn't take any pictures at dinner, so I didn't get a picture of Rusty (the oldest son of the Cornwell's) and his family. I'm really sad about that, too.

After church Sunday night we went to eat with the rest of the family. We had so much fun! Being with "family", talking, remembering, and laughing together refreshes the spirit. We all ought to make it a point to be with friends real often!

After church Sunday night at the restaurant I took a picture of Randy, Bro. Cornwell, and Ricky. After we said our "goodbye's" on Monday, we drove over to Denison to see our good friends, David and Kaye Gilbert. We had been wanting to see the remodeling of their church. They had a major storm (tornado) hit it awhile ago, and they have been working on the church building for some time, so we took the opportunity to stop and see it. We were glad we did! Since neither one of us had a chance to celebrate Valentine's Day we decided to "go on a double date"! :) Our guys took us to P.F.Chang's and we had a GREAT "date". :)
God is GOOD, life is GOOD, and we are BLESSED!

Wayne and Patsy Huntley In Longview

A few weeks ago we drove to Longview to hear Bro. Wayne Huntley preach at the Chargois church. We were so happy that we had this opportunity. We love Wayne and Patsy Huntley and have always enjoyed hearing him preach, and PREACH....HE DID! It was great! After service, we enjoyed getting to visit with them, Bro. and Sis. Chargois, and Bro. and Sis. Spears.

Bro. and Sis. Spears are longtime friends of our family, and we had an opportunity to "walk down memory lane" with them. We had some good "laughing time" together. Of course, memories of my parents and the Fresno church is usually talked about when we see the Spears. There are a lot of stories to tell and we enjoy them over and over again!

I've known Valinda Chargois (Spears) since she was a little girl and have always thought she was a sweetheart! Over the last several weeks we have had the pleasure of visiting with her and Bro. Chargois. I just have to say that, Valinda got her a great man for her husband! We have enjoyed getting to know Bro. Chargois, and loved our time with them.

I'm sure you can tell how very special this night was by just the little I have told you. After eating and visiting awhile I prevailed upon everyone to take a couple of pictures.

A.D. Spear's, Wayne Huntley, Charles Chargois, and Wendell Elms

Patsy Huntley, Edith Spears, Me, and Valinda Chargois
There is nothing like having wonderful friends! We have been blessed with many great people in our lives, and I'm so thankful!
